Haneda Airport SIM Card: Where to Buy One and What Still Works After 11 p.m.

Your flight from the US lands at Haneda late. Your phone has no data, and you need a train route and your hotel address. Here is the short answer on a Haneda Airport SIM card. In Terminal 3, go to the 2F arrival lobby, where AnyFone JAPAN and Mobile Center sell prepaid SIMs until 11:00 p.m. After that, the airport lists one thing in Terminal 3 that runs all night: a self-service pocket Wi-Fi rental.

In short:

  • T3 has two staffed SIM sellers on 2F, both listed until 11:00 p.m., and no SIM vending machine on the airport's list.
  • T1 and T2 each list an AnyFone vending machine on B1F, open 5:00 a.m. to midnight.
  • HANEDA-FREE-WIFI runs in all three terminals, so you can look things up after you land.
  • If your phone supports eSIM, you can set it up before you fly. Our Japan plans start at $4 for 1 GB and 7 days (price on November 1, 2026).

Moosetrip sells eSIMs, so keep that in mind as you read. We have not tested these counters or networks. Everything below comes from the pages listed at the end.

Where to buy a SIM or rent Wi-Fi at Haneda, by terminal

This table comes from the airport's own list, checked on November 1, 2026. That page shows no update date, so use it as a guide.

Before you walk over:

  1. Not every listing sells SIMs. The airport says so outright for the T1 machine, the T3 AnyFone counter, and Mobile Center on T3 2F. The T2 machine has the same name, but the text only names T1. Ask the others.
  2. One time is in dispute. The list opens Mobile Center on T3 2F at 6:30 a.m. Its shop page says 6:00 a.m. Plan for 6:30.
  3. Check your arrival terminal. The list shows an international arrival lobby in T2 as well as T3.

Comparing a SIM card at each Tokyo airport? Narita lists SIM machines in all three terminals, but most counters close at 9:00 p.m., as our Narita guide shows.

Which SIMs give you internet only

No Haneda seller page we read says whether its SIMs include SMS or voice, so ask: "Data only, or data and SMS?"

Japan's communications ministry gives a hint. Its August 2026 chart shows two contract types for short-stay visitors: data SIMs and voice rentals. It has no row for a regular voice SIM. So expect data, not a Japanese number. If you need calls, ask about a rental phone.

Passport rules for tourists

Here is where the rules stood in that August 3, 2026 ministry report:

  • Voice rentals: an ID check is already required. Short-stay visitors can use a passport alone.
  • Data SIMs: the law has not required an ID check so far, though some operators check on their own.
  • The change: an amendment passed on May 22, 2026 and was promulgated on May 29. Data SIMs come under ID checks, and a passport alone will do for short-stay visitors.
  • Start date: within one year of promulgation, so by late May 2027. We did not find the exact date.
  • Which SIMs: the working group says SIMs with SMS should be covered and SIMs with no SMS should not. That is its direction, not the final text.

So keep your passport handy. The Haneda pages we read list no required documents, and we don't know how machines will handle the new rule.

What a SIM costs at Haneda

We could not confirm a current Haneda SIM price on a primary source, so we are not quoting one. The airport's list and the Mobile Center shop page show no prices, and AnyFone's site would not load for us on November 1, 2026. Read the machine or counter sign before you pay.

Haneda Airport pocket Wi-Fi

The table above shows every rental desk on the airport's list: WiFiBOX, J WiFi & Mobile, GLOBAL WiFi, and XCom Global, plus the self-service rental on T3 2F. For a late arrival, that last one matters most, because it is the only one listed as open 24 hours.

We are not quoting rental prices or booking rules here. The airport's list shows neither, and the only pages that do belong to the sellers themselves, so we left them out. Before you fly, check the company's own terms, and ask if it takes same-day bookings and where you pick up after hours.

Free Wi-Fi at Haneda

The network is called HANEDA-FREE-WIFI in all three terminals. Pick it in your Wi-Fi settings, open a web browser, and follow the steps on screen.

In T1 and T2 it does not work in shops, apart from lounges. In T3 it misses certain shops. It can also be hard to connect in some spots. The page gives no time limit and says nothing about security, so leave banking for later.

Landing late: what is open, hour by hour

Immigration and bags take time, so a 10:30 p.m. landing can still miss an 11:00 p.m. counter.

TimeTerminal 3Terminals 1 and 2
Until 11:00 p.m.AnyFone and Mobile Center on 2F sell SIMsMachines; T2 counters until 10:00 or 11:00 p.m.
11:00 p.m. to midnightSelf-service rental on 2FMachines, WiFiBOX store in T1
Midnight to 5:00 a.m.Self-service rental on 2FNothing listed

If you land in T3 after 11:00 p.m.:

  1. Connect to HANEDA-FREE-WIFI in the arrival lobby, before you head for the train.
  2. Find the self-service rental in front of Mobile Center on 2F, and check its screen for what it needs from you.
  3. If you pre-ordered, go to the pickup point on your confirmation.
  4. Skip the T1 and T2 machines. They stop at midnight, and we did not check terminal transfer times.
  5. If nothing works, save your route and your hotel address in Japanese while you are on free Wi-Fi.

How to get ready before you fly

  1. Check your phone. A plastic SIM needs a tray and an unlocked phone. Apple says iPhone 14 and later models bought in the US are eSIM only, so a SIM from these counters will not fit. Check your phone here.
  2. Call your carrier. If your US plan already includes data in Japan at a fair price, you may not need anything else.
  3. Landing after 10:00 p.m.? Order ahead or set up data at home.

Haneda Airport eSIM: when it makes more sense

You don't need a Haneda counter for an eSIM. It fits best if you land late or your phone has no SIM tray.

You install it at home over Wi-Fi with a QR code. Your days start with your first connection in Japan, your regular number stays on as a second line, and you can add data later.

Our Japan prices on November 1, 2026: 1 GB for 7 days is $4, and 5 GB for 30 days is $10.50. See all plans on the Japan page. Going on to Seoul? The Japan + South Korea plan starts at $5 for 1 GB and 7 days.

Skip our eSIM if your phone is locked or has no eSIM support, if you want unlimited data, or if your group wants to share one router. Our eSIMs are data only, with no phone number.
