Hurghada Taxi: Uber, inDrive, and Airport Rides

You walk out of Hurghada Airport with your bags, and a driver names a price. Is it fair? You have no meter to check it against and no idea what the ride should cost.

The easiest fix is an app. Uber and inDrive both say they work in Hurghada, and DiDi lists the city too. Street taxis at the airport have no meters, so you agree on a price first. Use the app as your price check before you say yes.

That only works with data on your phone. Ride apps need a connection the moment you step outside, and airport Wi-Fi can show up in your list and still not connect.

Fares below were checked on 2026-10-30. Dollar amounts use about 56 Egyptian pounds and 0.90 euros to $1, the rates that day.

In short:

  • Uber runs 24/7 in Hurghada, with no flat airport rate. The app shows a price at the start of each trip.
  • inDrive lets you name your fare, and you pay the driver in cash.
  • Airport taxis have no meters. Agree on the price before you get in.
  • Published fares differ widely, so compare both apps before you pay a street driver.

Uber. This is the same app you use at home. Uber says you can request a ride in Hurghada anytime. Type in your destination to see the options and prices. Hurghada is one of eight Egyptian cities on Uber's list, along with Cairo and Alexandria.

inDrive. You enter your destination and offer a price. Drivers respond, and you choose one based on rating, reviews, and car details. The ride types are Ride, Comfort, and Moto. inDrive says it covers the Marina, the airport, and nearby resorts, and that trips from Hurghada to El Gouna and Safaga are possible.

DiDi. Its Egypt page lists Hurghada among 11 cities. The page gives no prices or local details.

Careem. Its Egypt page says you can pay by card or cash. It does not name Hurghada, so plan around Uber and inDrive.

Keep Uber and inDrive both on your phone. Checking the same route in each takes about a minute.

How much is a taxi from Hurghada Airport?

Expect no fixed fare. Here is what the sources say:

TripPublished fareSource
Marina to the airport, regular taxi120 to 200 pounds ($2.14 to $3.57)inDrive, 2026
Airport to the city center, taxi€10 to €20 ($11 to $22)Travel Extra, September 2025
Uber from the airportNo flat rate, shown at the start of each tripUber, 2026

Those first two numbers are far apart, and that is exactly why you should check an app before you pay. If a driver asks for more than the apps show for the same address, you can walk to the rideshare pickup point or offer less.

Uber says fares can change if surcharges or tolls differ from the first estimate. Its average UberX ride from the airport lasts 18 minutes.

Distances from Hurghada Airport

Distance is a handy guide for what a ride should cost. These are road distances from Terminal 1 arrivals, based on OpenStreetMap. Terminal 2 adds about 0.1 mile.

DestinationMilesKilometers
Mamsha4.26.7
Sheraton Road5.48.7
Sekalla, by the port5.79.2

El Dahar square7.812.6
Sahl Hasheesh14.723.6
Makadi Bay19.130.8
El Gouna, Downtown24.839.9

The marina fare from inDrive covers about 6 miles. Mamsha and Sheraton Road are closer. El Dahar is about 2 miles farther, and El Gouna is about four times as far.

Egypt's civil aviation ministry puts the airport about 4 km (2.5 miles) south of the city, with two terminals. The ride to the center takes about 15 minutes, and the coastal tourist area about 30. Travel Extra warns that traffic on El-Nasr Street can slow you down at peak hours.

Finding your ride at the airport

Taxis wait 24 hours a day at the ranks in the ground transportation area, outside arrivals. Shared minibuses also run to the city center. Pickup and drop-off are on demand, so confirm your destination and the fare before you get in. Travel Extra put local buses and microbuses at €1 to €2 ($1.12 to $2.23) to El Dahar or Sahl Hasheesh in 2025.

Uber works differently. Follow these steps:

  1. Open the app after you land and request a ride. Pick the option that fits your group and bags.
  2. Follow the app's directions to your pickup point. It varies by terminal and may not be the exit closest to you.
  3. Look for rideshare or ground transportation signs, if posted.
  4. Check the driver's name, license plate, and car color before you get in.

UberX usually fits 2 suitcases and UberXL usually fits 3, though space is not guaranteed. Uber's page says taxis are not available for airport rides through the app, so choose a regular ride option.

You can also reserve ahead. Uber's airport page says Uber Reserve opens up to 90 days before your flight. For a reserved UberX, Comfort, or UberXL, meet the driver within 45 minutes of landing to avoid late fees. Uber runs all day, but early and late flights may mean a longer wait, so a reservation helps if you land at night.

Street taxis: how to agree on a price

Airport taxis have no meters, so settle the fare with the driver before the ride starts. Do the same in town. Get in only after the driver agrees to your number.

Open Uber or inDrive first and note the price for your address. Give your number in pounds, not dollars or euros. Have the address ready to show on your phone.

How to pay

Bring Egyptian pounds either way. inDrive lists cash as its only payment method, and you pay the fare you confirmed in the app after the ride. Careem's Egypt page lists card or cash. Uber's Hurghada pages do not list payment methods, so look in the app before you book. If you use a US card, check whether your bank adds a foreign transaction fee.

The airport has ATMs and currency exchange, according to Travel Extra. Take small bills so that you are not asking for change. On Uber, you can tip in the app or in cash, and Uber says 100% of in-app tips go to the driver.

Sort out data before you fly

If your US plan already includes data in Egypt at a fair price, you may not need anything else. Check before you go.

You can also buy a SIM on arrival. WE's store list showed two 24-hour points at Hurghada Airport on 2026-10-13, and Orange listed two Orange Travel points. Our Egypt internet guide compares SIM, eSIM, and roaming.

To have data the moment you land, a Moosetrip Egypt eSIM runs on Orange. It is data only, with no phone number. Install it at home over Wi-Fi with a QR code. The days start at your first connection in Egypt, and your normal number stays on as a second line. That second line matters if a ride app texts you a login code. See how to keep your US number abroad.

Prices on 2026-10-30:

3 GB, 30 days$17
5 GB, 30 days$19.50
10 GB, 30 days$41
20 GB, 30 days$69

As a generous estimate, 1 GB covers about 5 hours of maps and rides. Your phone must support eSIM and be unlocked, so check your phone first. Install Uber and inDrive at home too, and sign in while you still have Wi-Fi.
