Sharm El Sheikh Taxi: Apps, Meter Fares, and Airport Rides
You land in Sharm El Sheikh, open Uber out of habit, and find a problem. Sharm is not on Uber's list of cities in Egypt, so do not plan on it.
The app to use is inDrive. It says it works in Sharm and covers hotels, beaches, and major tourist spots. Street taxis have an official meter rate too. South Sinai's tariff notice of March 10, 2026 set 29 Egyptian pounds to start and 14 pounds per km. From the airport to Naama Bay, about 9.2 miles by road, that works out to about 240 pounds ($4.28).
So you have a fair number to work from. To use inDrive at the terminal, though, you need data on your phone, and airport Wi-Fi can show up in your list and still not connect.
Dollar amounts below use about 56 pounds to $1, the rate on 2026-10-30.

- inDrive works in Sharm. Uber and DiDi do not name the city in their Egypt lists.

Which taxi apps work in Sharm El Sheikh

inDrive. You enter your destination and send drivers an offer. They accept or reply with their own price. The ride types are Ride, Comfort, and Moto. inDrive says a typical trip from the Old Market to Naama Bay may cost 80 to 150 pounds ($1.43 to $2.68). Its Sharm page says nothing about the airport, so look up that fare in the app before you rely on it.
Uber. Its Egypt list has Alexandria, Cairo, Damietta, Hurghada, Mansoura, the Canal Cities, Tanta, and Zagazig. Sharm is missing. On 2026-10-14, the SSH airport was missing from Uber's airport list as well.
DiDi. Its Egypt page lists 11 cities, and Sharm is not one of them.
Careem. The Egypt page mentions no cities at all, so do not count on it here.
How much is a taxi from Sharm El Sheikh Airport?
The South Sinai tariff gives you a starting point: 29 pounds ($0.52) on the meter, plus 14 pounds ($0.25) per km. We multiplied that rate by the road distance from Terminal 1 to get the numbers below. Terminal 2 is about 0.1 mile closer. These are our estimates, and not a fixed price list.

A different route will change the meter. Nabq is closer to the airport than Naama Bay, and Hadaba and Ras Um Sid are the longest trips on this list.
There is one outside figure to compare. In September 2025, before the March tariff, Travel Extra put a taxi from the terminal to Naama Bay at 150 to 250 pounds ($2.68 to $4.46), about 15 minutes.
Tariffs here follow fuel prices. In April 2025, the Sharm rate was 21.50 pounds to start and 10.50 per km. So read the sticker on the car. If it shows a newer rate, that one applies.
At the airport
Travel Extra says taxis wait at both terminals. It advises agreeing on the fare in advance and checking availability ahead of time in the busy summer months.
Minibuses for 5 to 10 people wait outside the arrivals hall. Travel Extra said in 2025 that they take 20 to 30 minutes to the city center, for around 50 pounds ($0.89). That is higher than the provincial fares below, so ask the driver before you sit down.
Landing late? Ask your hotel about a shuttle before you leave home. Many hotels run their own, and you book ahead.
If you call an inDrive car from the terminal, match the driver and car to the app before you get in.
Minibus fares in town
South Sinai's March 2026 notice also sets per-person minibus fares from the Old Market.

Confirm the fare with the driver anyway. Say where you want to get off before you board.
Street taxis: meter or a set price
The rules favor you. South Sinai requires drivers to run the meter and to display the tariff sticker on the car and at the stand. Traffic police and stand inspectors check this, and violators are fined.
That does not mean every driver will switch it on. inDrive itself warns that tourist taxis in Sharm may overcharge. If the meter stays off, agree on a total before you get in, in pounds. Use the table above as your guide.
The same math works around town. The Old Market to Naama Bay is about 4.8 miles by road, or about 140 pounds ($2.50) on the meter, which is close to the top of inDrive's range. Naama Bay to Soho Square is about 6.6 miles, or about 180 pounds ($3.21).
How to pay
Bring Egyptian pounds. inDrive lists cash as its only payment method in Sharm, and riders usually pay at the end of the ride. The app locks in your price before you go. The taxi and minibus tariffs are set in pounds too, and small bills save you from asking for change.
Currency exchange and ATMs are in the Terminal 1 arrivals hall. Travel Extra says rates there are less favorable than in the city and that card acceptance can be inconsistent, so do not count on your US card. Take out only what you need for the first day or two.
Longer trips from Sharm
A taxi from the airport to your hotel stays within the city. Before you hire a car for a long road trip into the peninsula, read the current US travel advisory for Egypt at travel.state.gov. It covers the Sinai and it can change.
Sort out data before you fly
If your US plan already includes data in Egypt at a fair price, you may not need anything else. Check before you go.
