Lisbon Airport SIM Card: Where to Buy One and What It Costs

You land in Lisbon after a long flight from the US, and you need data for a ride and your hotel address. Can you get a Lisbon airport SIM card? During the day, likely yes. ANA, the airport operator, lists Vodafone points in Terminal 1: arrivals from 7 a.m. to 11 p.m., and the baggage area from 6 a.m. to 9 p.m. Land after 11 p.m. and we found no telecom shop listed as open. If your phone has eSIM, setting one up before you fly is the safer plan.

In short:

  • Vodafone is the only carrier on the ANA lists we read for Lisbon. We found no point for Terminal 2, and none for MEO or NOS.
  • All three networks sell visitor eSIMs online. MEO lists unlimited data in Portugal at €10 for 5 days, and NOS lists 15 GB at €9.99 for 7 days (checked November 1, 2026).
  • No carrier page we read says you need a passport. Carry yours anyway.
  • Our Portugal eSIM starts at $3.50 for 1 GB and 7 days (price on November 1, 2026). It is data only. For heavy use in Portugal alone, MEO's unlimited plans may suit you better.

We sell eSIMs, so we have a stake in this comparison, and we have not tried these shops or networks ourselves. Hours and prices come from the pages under Sources.

Where to buy a SIM card at Lisbon Airport

These rows come from ANA's service list. The rows name no airport. We read them as Lisbon because ANA labels Lisbon's areas T1 and T2 elsewhere. The airport's own Vodafone page opened blank for us, so treat these hours as a guide.

PointLocationSecurityHours
VodafoneTerminal 1, ArrivalsBefore7 a.m. to 11 p.m.
VodafoneTerminal 1, BaggageAfter6 a.m. to 9 p.m.
Xpress MarketT1After24 hours
Xpress MarketT2After24 hours

ANA calls Xpress Market an automatic store and does not say what it stocks, so do not count on it for a SIM.

Look for Vodafone while you wait for your bags, then try Arrivals, which stays open two hours later. ANA's lists show no Vodafone point in Terminal 2. MEO and NOS do not appear on ANA's Technology or Convenience lists. That does not prove they have no point here, but do not plan around one.

MEO, NOS, and Vodafone: what each sells to visitors

Each network runs its own visitor offers. These are the prices on their own sites, checked November 1, 2026, in euros.

The carrier pages have gaps, so read these notes before you pay.

  • Vodafone's €10 price may be stale. The page shows €10, down from €15, under a promotion "until 31/08/2026." That date had passed when we checked.
  • Vodafone's Europe allowances do not match. The page shows 30, 55, and 80 GB, while its FAQ says 25, 45, and 75 GB. Check the screen at checkout.
  • NOS is unclear on price and billing. It shows 12.99 next to the €9.99 plan. Its sign-up asks for an address in Portugal, and the physical card flow mentions a monthly invoice and a €4.99 charge refunded on the first invoice.
  • MEO eSIMs cannot be recharged. When the data or days run out, you buy a new one. Enjoy Portugal includes 50 minutes of national calls.
  • Vodafone's eSIMs have no calls or texts, its FAQ says.

Neither of these physical cards is confirmed for sale at the airport:

  • MEO Enjoy Card: €10 on the page, in 15, 20, or 35-day versions, with internet in Portugal only. It shows no GB amount and no price per length. MEO lists online orders with delivery or free pickup at a MEO store. The page names SIM and Micro SIM formats, so ask about nano-SIM.
  • Vodafone Travellers: Vodafone's help page says 10 GB, 500 national minutes or texts, and 50 international ones, for 30 days after first use. It gives no card price and no list of shops.

Do you need a passport for a Portugal SIM card?

We could not confirm a rule. The Vodafone, MEO, and NOS pages we read do not mention a passport, though travel guides in search say to bring one. Keep yours with you at the counter, since a seller can ask for it. For counters elsewhere, see our guide to buying a SIM at the airport.

Porto and Faro: if you land somewhere else

Porto. ANA's Technology list shows a Vodafone point before security on Floor 0, open 7:30 a.m. to 9 p.m. It sits in the Porto part of the list, but the row names no airport, so double-check.

Faro. We found no telecom point we could tie to Faro. ANA lists a FNAC there after security, from 6 a.m. to 10 p.m., with no word on SIM cards.

ANA's list also has two Vodafone rows with no airport or terminal: one open 8 a.m. to 8 p.m., and one on Floor 1 open 8 a.m. to 10 p.m. We cannot say where they are. So for Faro, Funchal, or Ponta Delgada, have your data ready before you fly.

Coverage on the coast, Madeira, and the Azores

We have no coverage numbers to give you. ANACOM, Portugal's telecom regulator, publishes coverage and performance reviews, but its site returned an error when we tried to read a report, so we quote none of its figures. We did not measure these networks ourselves.

Before a trip to a beach town, Madeira, or the Azores, look up your stops on the carrier's coverage map. Save offline maps before a hike or a long drive.

Landing after 11 p.m.

Neither listed Vodafone point in Terminal 1 is open after 11 p.m., and the Baggage point closes at 9 p.m. So before you fly:

  1. Install an eSIM at home if your phone supports it. It can connect right after you land.
  2. Book your ride and screenshot the pickup details.
  3. Save an offline map of Lisbon and your hotel address.

We did not confirm airport Wi-Fi or terminal night rules, because the airport page opened blank for us. Treat Wi-Fi as a bonus, not your plan.

Will your US phone work?

Three things decide this:

  • SIM tray. iPhone 14 and later models bought in the US have no tray, so a plastic SIM will not fit. See our iPhone guide for the iPhone 17 line.
  • eSIM support. Dial *#06#. NOS gives the same check as we do: if an EID appears, your phone supports eSIM. Our phone check covers the rest.
  • Carrier lock. Vodafone says its eSIM works on devices "unlocked or locked to the Vodafone network." A phone locked to a US carrier will not take it, so ask your carrier to unlock it first.

When an eSIM makes more sense

Here are our Portugal eSIM prices on November 1, 2026. Our catalog lists Vodafone and NOS as the networks here. We have not measured speeds, and we cannot say our plans get the same priority as a direct carrier plan.

DataValid forOur price
1 GB7 days$3.50
3 GB30 days$7.00
5 GB30 days$9.50
10 GB30 days$15.50
20 GB30 days$28.00

Our eSIM fits if you land late or use little data. You install it at home over Wi-Fi with a QR code, and days count from your first connection in Portugal. Vodafone counts validity from activation and suggests you install on arrival. Your regular number stays on as a second line, as our guide to keeping your US number explains. As a generous guide, 1 GB is about 5 hours of maps and taxi apps.

A carrier plan may fit you better if:

  • You stream or work from your phone in Portugal only. MEO's 15-day unlimited eSIM at €15 gives far more data than our 10 GB plan at $15.50.
  • You want minutes. Our plans are data only. MEO, NOS, and Vodafone Travellers list some.
  • You need a physical SIM. We sell eSIM only.

Going on to Spain or France? Compare a Europe plan with two country plans, using our Spain guide. Flying on to Paris? See that airport too.

You may need none of this. If your US plan already includes data in Portugal, ask about the daily cost and speed. Our data plan comparison can help.
