Phu Quoc Internet: Where to Get a SIM and Where the Signal Works
You are flying to Phu Quoc and want to know if your phone will work on the beach, on the cable car, and on the ride through the national park. The short answer: yes in the main spots, and Viettel has the widest record. In nPerf maps read in September 2026, Viettel had 4G or 5G readings at every place we looked at. Vinaphone and MobiFone had far fewer at Sao Beach and in the park.
The simplest setup is an eSIM you install at home, so you have data when you land. If you want a physical SIM, the operator shops are in Duong Dong, about 6.6 miles from the airport.
In short:
- All three operators have shops in Duong Dong, open on Sundays. Offices in An Thoi and Ganh Dau close on Sundays.
- nPerf showed 5G for all three at the airport and in Duong Dong in September 2026.
- On the national park roads, only Viettel had readings the whole way.
- For a week of island trips, 5 GB is a safe choice if you save video for hotel Wi-Fi.
Moosetrip sells eSIMs, so keep that in mind as you read. We have not tested these networks ourselves. Signal notes come from nPerf, where users run tests on their own phones.
After you land at Phu Quoc Airport
The terminal sits 10.7 km (6.6 miles) by road from Duong Dong, the island's main town. In September 2026, nPerf showed 5G in the terminal for all three operators. Along the road into town, all three had 4G or better.
With an eSIM, you have nothing to buy at the airport. Turn on data for the eSIM line after you land, and your phone joins a local network.
The three operators' shop lists, read on September 30, 2026, show no shop in the airport. Keep in mind the building is changing. Tuổi Trẻ reported on September 23, 2026 that Terminal T1 will grow from 39,270 to 49,726 square meters, with capacity rising to 9 million passengers a year. A new Terminal T2 is expected in April 2027. Counters can move during work like this, so a photo in an old blog post may not match what you see.
If you land with no data and need a ride, go to a shop in Duong Dong.

| MobiFone | Ganh Dau, north of the island | Same as An Thoi |
On Sunday, go to Duong Dong. All three operators open there, and the Viettel and MobiFone shops sit on the same street, Nguyen Trung Truc.
Staying in the north near Ganh Dau or VinWonders? The nearest office on this list is MobiFone's. Viettel and Vinaphone are only in Duong Dong and An Thoi.
Before you go, check three things:
- Your passport. Bring the original, in case the seller asks for it.
- Your phone. It needs a SIM tray for a plastic SIM, and it must be unlocked. Check your phone here.
- Your plan. Ask what is included, how many days it lasts, and if it comes with calls.
Where the signal works on Phu Quoc
We read nPerf maps for 16 spots and 7 roads. These maps were updated between September 18 and 30, 2026. They show two years of tests from regular phones. When a cell says "no readings," it does not prove there is no signal. It means nobody ran a test there.
| Place | Viettel | Vinaphone | MobiFone |
|---|---|---|---|
| Airport | 5G | 5G | 5G |
| Duong Dong, market and night market | 5G | 5G | 4G+ and 5G |
| Long Beach, along the shore | 4G and 5G | 4G+, on 62% of the shore | 4G, on about half the shore |
| An Thoi, cable car station | 5G | 4G+ | 4G |
| Cable car and Hon Thom | 5G along the whole line | 4G+ on the island, few readings over the sea | No readings on the island |
| Sao Beach | 4G, on about half the beach | 4G+, on 41% of the beach | No readings |
| VinWonders and Grand World | 4G and 5G | 4G+ and 5G | 4G and 5G |
| Vinpearl Safari, within 500 m | 4G | 4G and 5G | 4G+ |
| National park roads | 4G+ and 5G at all 107 points | 28 of 107 points | 15 of 107 points |
| Bai Vong port | 4G+ and 5G | 4G+ | No readings |
Viettel stands out for reach. It has readings at every spot here, even over the sea along the 4.9-mile cable car line. On the road from Duong Dong to An Thoi, Viettel also showed 5G.
The catalog for our Vietnam eSIM lists Viettel, Vinaphone, and MobiFone. It does not state a network generation, so we do not promise 5G. Plan on 4G, which Viettel showed at every place in the table.
Going to Sao Beach or the national park for the day? Download an offline map of the island over hotel Wi-Fi first. GPS still works with no signal, so your dot keeps moving on the map.
Ferries to Phu Quoc: what to expect on board
Ferries and fast boats reach the island from the mainland. The Thanh Thoi car ferry lands at Bai Vong pier on the east coast, 14.7 km (9.1 miles) from Duong Dong. This is the schedule on October 30, 2026. It can change from day to day, so check it before you go.
| From | Sailings | Time | Adult fare |
|---|---|---|---|
| Ha Tien | 9 a day, from 3:45 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. | 2 h 40 min to 3 h 10 min | 205,000 dong |
| Rach Gia | 2 a day, at 6:45 a.m. and 2:45 p.m. | 3 h to 3 h 15 min | 315,000 dong |
Fast boats from Rach Gia and Ha Tien are sold by Superdong on its own site. Fares here are in dong, as the operator lists them, because your card's exchange rate sets the final dollar cost.
Do not count on steady data at sea. Viettel readings covered 38% of the 71-mile Rach Gia line and 33% to 48% of the Ha Tien lines, in a band about half a mile wide around each route. Most of them were 4G. Vinaphone covered about half of the Ha Tien lines, and MobiFone 10% to 15%. Save your ticket, hotel booking, and island map before you board.
How much data to buy for a week
We keep this estimate on the high side. As a generous rule of thumb, 1 GB is about 5 hours of maps and taxi apps, or 1.5 hours of video calls.
Our Vietnam plans on October 30, 2026:
| Data | Days | Price | Roughly equals |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1 GB | 7 | $4.50 | 5 hours of maps and taxi apps |
| 3 GB | 30 | $9.50 | 15 hours of maps and taxi apps |
| 5 GB | 30 | $14.00 | 25 hours of maps and taxi apps |
| 10 GB | 30 | $24.00 | 15 hours of video calls |
| 20 GB | 30 | $42.00 | 30 hours of video calls |
Staying at a beach resort with Wi-Fi? 3 GB should cover a week. Renting a scooter or taking day trips? Pick 5 GB. Phones also use data in the background, so this is one reason to buy a bit more than the math says. Streaming video eats far more than maps, so save it for hotel Wi-Fi. If you run out, you can add data to the same eSIM.
eSIM or a local SIM: which one fits
An eSIM is simpler if your phone supports it and is unlocked. You install it at home over Wi-Fi with a QR code. Your days start with your first connection in Vietnam, not when you install it. Your regular number stays on as a second line.
A local SIM may fit better if:
- Your phone does not support eSIM, or it is locked to your carrier.
- You need a Vietnamese phone number. Our eSIMs are data only, with no number.
- You will be near a shop anyway and want to compare plans in person.
You may not need either one. If your US plan already includes data in Vietnam at a cost you are happy with, keep it. Ask your carrier about the daily cost and speed before you leave.
