Phu Quoc Taxi: Apps, Airport Pickup, and What You Should Pay

You walk out of the arrivals hall at Phu Quoc with your bags, and the drivers start asking where you are going. What is a fair price, and which app should you open?

The easiest Phu Quoc taxi is a Grab or Xanh SM booked in the app. The airport names both as services that work at the terminal. The taxi stand has Saigon Phu Quoc Taxi, Vinasun, and Mai Linh. Duong Dong, the island's main town, is about 6 miles from the terminal. Expect roughly 120,000 to 160,000 dong ($4.60 to $6.20) by app before airport fees. The airport's own estimate for a taxi is 180,000 to 220,000 dong ($7 to $8.50).

The apps need mobile data the moment you step outside. The terminal has free Wi-Fi, but airport Wi-Fi can show up in your list and still refuse to connect. So land with data already working.

In short:

  • Grab and Xanh SM both work on the island and at the airport. Grab also has motorbikes.
  • GrabCar from the airport adds a 15,000 dong platform fee and a 10,000 dong airport fee, $0.97 in all, as of 2026-10-30.
  • Since October 12, 2026, GrabCar pickups are at columns 5 and 6 and in the parking area by the flagpole.
  • Dollar amounts use about 25,800 dong to $1, the rate on 2026-10-30.

Moosetrip sells eSIMs, so keep that in mind as you read. We have not ridden these routes as a test. Everything below comes from airport and operator pages listed at the end, plus our own math on their rates. Rates are from 2026-10-16 unless a line says otherwise.

Which taxi apps work on Phu Quoc

Grab. On Phu Quoc you can book 4-seat and 6-seat GrabCars, Plus, Premium, and GrabBike motorbikes. Since September 10, 2026 there is also a cheaper GrabCar Tiet Kiem and a two-door GrabCar Mini for up to 3 people. You see the price before you book, and the in-app chat translates messages for you. GrabBike takes one passenger with a light bag, and a helmet is provided.

Xanh SM. This is Vietnam's electric taxi service, and its site now uses the name Green SM. It publishes a rate card for the island under "An Giang (Phu Quoc)," because Phu Quoc is a special zone within An Giang province. Its price table lists cars only there, in Car and Premium classes.

Be. A Vietnamese app with Phu Quoc rates for 4-seat and 7-seat cars and beTaxi. You choose cash, card, or wallet when you book.

The taxi stand. Saigon Phu Quoc Taxi, Vinasun, and Mai Linh work at the airport. This is your fallback if your phone has no data.

Grab's per-minute charge starts after the first 2 km. Prices also move with demand. Xanh SM's opening fare can run 10,000 dong lower or 20,000 higher, and its per-km rate 6,000 lower or 10,000 higher.

From 10 p.m. to 6 a.m., Xanh SM and Be add 20,000 dong ($0.78) a trip. Grab lists a night surcharge too, and the app shows the full price before you book. Grab also adds a service fee of 5,000 to 19,000 dong per car ride.

For scale, a 5 km (3-mile) ride comes to about 72,000 dong ($2.80) on Xanh SM and 62,000 dong ($2.40) on GrabCar, before Grab's service fee.

Add the fees. On GrabCar from the airport, you pay the app 15,000 dong and hand the driver 10,000 dong for the airport fee. Grab's blog lists that fee for pickups at the domestic and international terminals. With both, a GrabCar to Duong Dong comes to about 144,000 to 155,000 dong ($5.60 to $6). Xanh SM's airport and road fees are also on top of its fare.

The airport's guide estimates 180,000 to 220,000 dong ($7 to $8.50) by taxi to central Duong Dong and 200,000 to 250,000 ($7.75 to $9.70) to An Thoi, with more at peak times and holidays.

Green Airport flat fares

Going far? Xanh SM's Green Airport package can beat its regular rate. From the airport to the south of the island, up to 18 km (11 miles), it costs 206,000 dong ($8). Anywhere on Phu Quoc up to 35 km (22 miles) costs 400,000 dong ($15.50). Each extra km is 10,800 dong ($0.42). Fees are extra, and the price can move with demand.

That puts An Thoi and Sunset Town at about 218,000 to 227,000 dong ($8.45 to $8.80) and Grand World at 400,000. For Duong Dong and central Long Beach, the regular fare is cheaper.

Where to find your ride at Phu Quoc Airport

Taxi stand. At Terminal T1, taxis pick up on Level 1, right after you leave the arrivals hall. Join the line and board only in the marked zone. Airport staff from the taxi services can help. Going back to fly out, taxis and app cars drop you at the departure entrances on Level 2.

Grab pickup points, since October 12, 2026:

  1. Point A, at columns 5 and 6: GrabCar 6-seat, electric 6-seat, and Premium.
  2. Points B and C, in the parking area by the flagpole: all GrabCar services. Use the crosswalk from the arrivals exit.

Grab drivers may not wait at the terminal for more than 3 minutes. So walk to your point right after you book. On Xanh SM, the company advises you to pick the exact column number and hall in the app.

Bus and hotel shuttles

A bus stops in front of the arrivals hall. The airport lists tickets at 20,000 to 30,000 dong ($0.80 to $1.15). The ride takes 30 to 40 minutes to Duong Dong and 30 to 45 to An Thoi. Luggage space is tight, so the airport points people with big bags to a taxi or app car. VinBus also runs route 17 from the airport to Grand World.

Hotel shuttles can be free or paid, depending on the hotel and room type. Book ahead and send your flight number. Their staff wait on Level 1.

How to avoid overpaying

  • Take a taxi with a company logo and markings. Ask for a rough price first, or make sure the meter is on. That is the airport's own advice.
  • Compare with the tables above. If a driver wants far more than 220,000 dong ($8.50) to Duong Dong, that is above the airport's estimate.
  • Do not make side deals with a Grab driver. Grab bans drivers from taking riders off the app, soliciting, asking for parking money, or canceling to name their own price.
  • Get out where you said you would. If you end a Grab ride early, Grab still charges the full fare.

How to pay for a taxi on Phu Quoc

All three apps take cash. Grab says so on its Phu Quoc airport page, Xanh SM in its help section, and Be on its rates page. Carry small bills.

Grab adds 4% to rides paid with a foreign card. Your US card may add its own foreign transaction fee, so check that before you link it. If you want to tip, cash is easiest.

Get data working before you fly

Download Grab and sign up at home over your own Wi-Fi. Then all you need after landing is mobile data.

If your US plan already includes data in Vietnam, you may not need anything else. For a local SIM, see our Phu Quoc internet guide.

Moosetrip's Vietnam eSIM lists Viettel, Vinaphone, and MobiFone. It is $4.50 for 1 GB over 7 days or $14 for 5 GB over 30 days, on 2026-10-30.

You install the eSIM at home over Wi-Fi with a QR code. Your days start with your first connection in Vietnam, and your regular number stays on as a second line. If you run low, you can add data to the same eSIM. Your phone must support eSIM and be unlocked, so run the phone check first.

Our cautious rule: 1 GB gives you about 5 hours of maps and taxi apps, or about 1.5 hours of video calls.
