Pattaya SIM Card: The Best Place to Buy One Before You Get There
Your flight lands in Bangkok, and Pattaya is still a long ride away. You need to find your driver, send your hotel address, and maybe book a car, all before you leave the terminal. If you wait until Pattaya to sort out your phone, you make that whole trip without data.
The best place to get a Pattaya SIM card is usually Suvarnabhumi Airport, right after you clear arrivals. AIS and True both sell tourist SIMs there. If you are already in Pattaya, 7-Eleven and phone shops in the malls sell them too. If your phone supports eSIM and you would rather skip the counter, install one at home and turn it on after you land.
In short:
- AIS tourist SIMs are 499 baht for 8 days and 699 baht for 15 days, with unlimited data, on 2026-10-30.
- True's 8-day unlimited SIM is 449 baht, and True says its airport locations run 24/7.
- In Pattaya, Central Festival on Beach Road has AIS, True, and dtac under one roof.
- The Moosetrip Thailand eSIM starts at $5.50 for 1 GB over 7 days, and 5 GB for 30 days is $13, on 2026-10-30.
Which option fits your trip
| Your situation | What to do |
|---|---|
| Landing at Suvarnabhumi | Buy a tourist SIM in arrivals, or turn on an eSIM you installed at home |
| Landing at U-Tapao | Install an eSIM before you fly, or plan to buy a SIM in town |
| Already in Pattaya with no data | Take your passport to a 7-Eleven, FamilyMart, or a mall shop |
| Staying a month or more | Work out your data for 30 days, and how you will top up |
| Your US plan includes Thailand | Keep it if the high-speed data is enough |
Here is an honest note. Thai tourist SIMs are good value, and unlimited data is hard to beat if you stream a lot. If your phone has a SIM tray, is unlocked, and you do not need your US line in the phone, one may suit you better than our eSIM. An eSIM wins on ease: no counter, no line, and your US number stays on your phone.
Daily roaming is the costly choice on a long stay. Verizon lists TravelPass at $12 a day in most countries, and AT&T lists International Day Pass at $12 a day for one line. Ten days on one line is $120. Those passes include calls and texts, and they can suit a very short trip. Confirm Thailand and the rate in your carrier app. Our TravelPass breakdown shows how the days add up.
Suvarnabhumi Airport: where to buy and what it costs
AIS lists two shops on floor 2 of the arrivals area, near Gates 6-7 and Gate 8. On October 1, 2026, both showed hours of 12 a.m. to 11:59 p.m. every day. True and dtac have more than ten points on the same floor, near the exits and baggage belts. True's tourist SIM page says service runs 24/7 at airport locations.
AIS tourist plans, as the operator listed them on October 30, 2026. Baht prices are shown as listed.
| Plan | Price | Data |
|---|---|---|
| 1 day | 49 baht | 1 GB, at a listed 10 Mbps |
| 5 days | 399 baht | Unlimited, 5G and 4G |
| 8 days | 499 baht | Unlimited, 5G and 4G |
| 15 days | 699 baht | Unlimited, 5G and 4G |
| 30 days | 1,199 baht | Unlimited, 5G and 4G |
| 60 days | 1,599 baht | Unlimited, 5G and 4G |
True and dtac sell Tourist Infinite SIMs for 8, 15, and 30 days with unlimited data. True's FAQ gives 449 baht for the 8-day SIM. Its terms say speed is not guaranteed, and it varies with coverage, the number of users, and your phone. A counter price can differ from the website, so confirm the total first.
For a trip of 10 to 14 days, the 15-day plan is the one to look at. The 8-day plan costs less, but it runs out before your trip does.
Before you pay at a counter
- Bring your passport. True says tourist SIMs are registered with a valid passport under the rules of Thailand's telecom regulator, the NBTC.
- Have staff insert the SIM and activate it for you.
- Turn off Wi-Fi and open a map before you walk away.
A plastic SIM needs a physical tray, and the phone must be unlocked. If your phone has no tray, a counter cannot help you. You can check your phone here.
Save your hotel address and a map screenshot at home. If your data takes a while to start, you can still show your driver the screen.
Landing at U-Tapao
Some flights use U-Tapao, which is closer to Pattaya. The airport's facilities page lists prepaid SIM cards and a free network called Free WiFi @ utapao. Its shop list, read on October 1, 2026, shows AIS and True on Floor 1 of Terminal 2, and a 7-Eleven outside Terminal 2.
If you land late, ask your hotel or driver to meet you in arrivals, or set up an eSIM before you fly. That way the first hour does not depend on a shop being open.
Where to buy a SIM in Pattaya
The quick choice is a corner store. dtac says its tourist SIMs are sold at all 7-Eleven and FamilyMart stores. Bring your passport here too, and check your connection before you leave the register.
A phone shop is better if you want someone to insert and test the SIM. These locations come from the AIS and True store lists on October 1, 2026.
| Location | Area | AIS | True and dtac |
|---|---|---|---|
| Central Festival Pattaya Beach | Beach Road | Floor 3, Mon to Thu 11 a.m. to 10 p.m., Fri to Sun and holidays until 11 p.m. | True, and dtac on floor 3 |
| Terminal 21 Pattaya | North Pattaya | Floor 1, 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. | True, floor 1 |
| Central Marina | North Pattaya | Floor 2, 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. | Not listed |
| Lotus's North Pattaya | Naklua | Telewiz, floor 1, 10 a.m. to 7:30 p.m. | True |
| Big C Extra | Central Pattaya | Telewiz, floor 2, 10 a.m. to 8:30 p.m. | True |
| Lotus's South Pattaya | Sukhumvit, toward Jomtien | Floor 1, 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. | True |
| 20/187 Pattaya Tai Road | South Pattaya | Not listed | True |
From the Walking Street arch, the closest shop is True on Pattaya Tai Road, about 600 m away. Central Festival is about 1.3 km away. Jomtien has no shop on these lists, so use a 7-Eleven, or go to Lotus's South Pattaya, 2.5 to 3.5 km away.
Signal in Pattaya and on Koh Larn
nPerf maps come from tests run by users over two years. The maps below were updated on September 30, 2026. Each figure is the share of map cells with 5G around that spot, out of the cells with any tests.
| Place | AIS | True | dtac |
|---|---|---|---|
| Beach Road | 94-100% | 88-100% | 73-100% |
| Walking Street | 86-100% | 83-100% | 68-94% |
| Big malls | 98-100% | 97-100% | 83-98% |
| Naklua and Wong Amat | 84-99% | 61-98% | 68-84% |
| Pratumnak viewpoint | 99% | 96% | 95% |
| Jomtien | 83-100% | 84-100% | 54-94% |
| Bali Hai Pier | 87-95% | 87-91% | 55-79% |
Where 5G is missing, you will mostly see 4G+ and 4G. The Sanctuary of Truth is a soft spot for AIS, with few tests and no 5G among them.
Koh Larn is fine for a day trip, but not as strong. No AIS or True shop is listed on the island, so buy your SIM in town. On the ferry from Bali Hai to Naban Pier, 4G or better led at all 36 points on True and at 34 of 36 on AIS.
| Koh Larn | AIS | True | dtac |
|---|---|---|---|
| Naban Pier | 85% | 82% | 24% |
| Tawaen Beach | 87% | 81% | 98% |
| Tawaen Pier | 67% | 8% | 84% |
| Samae Beach | 68% | 100% | 0% |
Before you head out, download an offline map of the island, screenshot your return ferry time, and agree on a meeting point with your group. A power bank helps too, because a phone hunting for signal drains faster.
How much data you need
Use a cautious rule: 1 GB is about 5 hours of maps and taxi apps, or about 1.5 hours of video calls.
| Trip | Daily use off Wi-Fi | Total | Plan to pick |
|---|---|---|---|
| 10 days | 1 hour of maps, 20-minute video call | About 4.2 GB | 5 GB |
| 14 days | 1 hour of maps, 20-minute video call | About 5.9 GB | 10 GB |
| 30 days | 30 minutes of maps, 10-minute video call | About 6.3 GB | 10 GB |
For a long winter stay with good Wi-Fi at home, the third row is the one that counts. Ask your landlord about the home connection before you commit. Set app updates and photo backups to Wi-Fi only, and your data will last longer.
A travel eSIM for Pattaya
An eSIM is a digital SIM. You install it at home over Wi-Fi with a QR code, and days count from your first connection in Thailand, so you can do it well before you fly. Your regular number stays on as a second line.
Our Thailand plans list the AIS, DTAC, and TrueMove H networks. Prices on 2026-10-30:
| Data | Valid for | Price |
|---|---|---|
| 1 GB | 7 days | $5.50 |
| 3 GB | 30 days | $9.50 |
| 5 GB | 30 days | $13 |
| 10 GB | 30 days | $19.50 |
| 20 GB | 30 days | $30 |
After you land, set the eSIM as your line for mobile data and turn off data roaming on your US line. Your phone must support eSIM and be unlocked. The eSIM is internet only, so it gives you no Thai number. If you run low, you can add data to the same eSIM. Flying on from Thailand? Our Asia eSIM covers 14 countries, so check that every stop is on the list.
Questions
Are SIM counters at Suvarnabhumi open at night?
AIS listed its two arrivals shops as open around the clock on October 1, 2026, and True says its airport service runs 24/7. An eSIM installed at home means you do not need a counter at all.
Should I buy a SIM in Bangkok or in Pattaya?
Buy at the airport if you can. You get data for the ride, and the counters are set up for tourists. In Pattaya, 7-Eleven and mall shops work too.
Do I need a passport to buy a SIM at 7-Eleven?
Yes. Tourist SIMs are registered with your passport under NBTC rules, so bring it with you.
Which network is best in Pattaya?
On nPerf, AIS and True look close in most of the city. dtac has less 5G on Pratumnak Hill and near Cozy Beach, where it shows mostly 4G+.
Does Koh Larn have cell service?
Yes. Piers and main beaches show 4G+ or 5G on nPerf, though it varies by network. Download a map and save your ferry time anyway.
Will I keep my US number with an eSIM?
Yes. It stays on as a second line. Check what your carrier charges for calls and texts in Thailand, or you may pay roaming fees on that line.
