How to Get to Cappadocia from Istanbul: Flight, Bus, or Shuttle

The fastest way to get to Cappadocia is a short flight from Istanbul to Nevsehir (NAV) or Kayseri (ASR). You spend about 1 hour 20 minutes in the air, then about 40 to 60 minutes on the road to Goreme. The cheap way is a night bus from Istanbul, about 10 hours, from 2,000 lira ($40) on October 30, 2026.

Neither airport has a nonstop from the US, so most Americans connect in Istanbul. Plan the last leg with care. Some Istanbul flights land after midnight, and night buses reach Nevsehir around dawn. Your shuttle driver may confirm the meeting point over WhatsApp, and you still have to reach a cave hotel you have never seen. A phone with no data makes all of that harder.

Dollar amounts use about 49.9 lira to $1, the rate on October 30, 2026. Bus prices and the main shuttle prices were checked that day. Flight schedules are from October 23, 2026, and they change.

In short:

  • Nevsehir gets flights only from Istanbul. Kayseri also has flights from Antalya, Izmir, and Bodrum.
  • A shared shuttle from either airport costs about €10 to €15 per person. A private van runs €70 to €90. Book ahead with your flight number.
  • The bus from Istanbul averages about 10 hours 17 minutes, from 2,000 lira ($40).
  • No train reaches Cappadocia. The fast train goes to Ankara, and you take a bus from there.

Flying: Nevsehir or Kayseri

Cappadocia has two airports. Nevsehir (NAV) is closer to Goreme, but it has few flights, and all of them are from Istanbul. Kayseri (ASR) is farther out, with more flights and more airlines.

RouteAirlinesFlights a weekIn the air
Istanbul IST to NevsehirTurkish Airlines181 hr 20 min

Antalya to KayseriPegasus, SunExpress61 hr 10 min
Izmir to KayseriPegasus, SunExpress41 hr 20 min

If you fly into Istanbul from the US, you will usually land at IST. Turkish Airlines covers both Cappadocia airports from there, so you can stay in one airport. The AJet and Pegasus flights leave from Sabiha Gokcen (SAW), on the Asian side of the city, so allow time to cross Istanbul.

Late flights are common. On the October schedule, SAW to Kayseri left as late as 23:55, and IST to Nevsehir as early as 01:40. Book your shuttle for the actual landing time.

From the airport to Goreme and nearby towns

These are our own estimates from OpenStreetMap road data, with no traffic or stops. A shared shuttle takes longer because it drops other riders at their hotels.

Uchisar23 miles, 34 min50 miles, 64 min
Urgup30 miles, 42 min43 miles, 54 min
Avanos22 miles, 39 min41 miles, 54 min

Shared shuttle. Cappadocia Airport Shuttle charges €15 per person, one way, from either airport, on October 30, 2026. Helios Transfer listed €10 from Kayseri to Goreme or Uchisar and €12 from Nevsehir to Urgup on October 23, 2026, and says it times its service to flights.

Private van. A Vito for up to 5 people costs €80 from Nevsehir and €90 from Kayseri at Cappadocia Airport Shuttle. A Sprinter for up to 16 people costs €90 and €110. Helios listed a Vito to Goreme at €70 from Nevsehir and €75 from Kayseri.

Booking. Cappadocia Airport Shuttle asks for each passenger's name and passport number, your flight number, your hotel, and a WhatsApp contact. It confirms the meeting point over WhatsApp, and the driver holds a sign with your name. You pay the driver in cash. Prices are in euros, and it can take US dollars or lira at the rate that day. Bring cash, because a card won't work here. Some cave hotels sit on lanes a van can't enter, so ask where you will be dropped off.

Taxi and Uber. At Kayseri airport, you can order a yellow taxi through Uber at any hour. It takes up to 4 people, usually with 2 or 3 bags. There is no flat fare. The app shows a price at the start, and it can change at the end because of tolls and surcharges.

Signal along the way

Our Turkey eSIM runs on Vodafone and Türk Telekom. We looked up both on the nPerf coverage map on October 23, 2026. The map is built from user tests over two years. The table shows the most common network type within about 500 feet.

Those readings stop at the surface, so don't expect them inside the Derinkuyu underground city. In Ihlara Valley, the map had readings on neither network, so save an offline map before you go.

Set up data before you leave

A travel eSIM can be installed at home over Wi-Fi with a QR code, and you turn on its data line after landing. Days start with your first connection in Turkey. Your US number stays on as a second line, and you can add data to the same eSIM.

These were our Turkey plans on October 30, 2026: 1 GB for 7 days at $3.50, 3 GB for 30 days at $7, 5 GB for 30 days at $9.50, and 10 GB for 30 days at $16. As a cautious guide, 1 GB is about 5 hours of maps and rides, or 1.5 hours of video calls. Your phone must support eSIM and be unlocked, so check your phone first. If your US plan already covers Turkey, you may not need one. Our Turkey eSIM guide compares the options.
