Free Wi-Fi in Turkey: Airports, Hotels and How to Log In

Free Wi-Fi in Turkey is common at airports and hotels, but you rarely just tap and connect. Most airports give you about an hour, and you get in with a text code, a passport scan or a PIN from a kiosk.

That can catch you out right after you land. At Dalaman you get just 30 minutes, and the kiosk for international arrivals stands before passport control. At Ankara, the text code goes only to Turkish numbers. Miss those steps and you have no map, no ride and no way to reach your hotel.

In short:

  • Antalya, Izmir, Bodrum and Sabiha Gokcen give 1 hour. Dalaman gives 30 minutes, Gazipasa-Alanya 2 hours, and Istanbul Airport has no limit.
  • The login steps come from Turkish rules: a public hotspot has to identify who connects.
  • Turkish hotel rules require internet in the rooms from four stars up. They do not say it must be free.
  • A text code needs your US line to work in Turkey, or you can use a passport kiosk.

For both Istanbul airports in detail, see our Istanbul Airport guide. For Antalya's stores and hours, see the Antalya SIM guide.

Istanbul Airport. Pick iGA WiFi, then "Login with Mobile" for a text code. Or scan your passport at a kiosk and choose "Login with Access Code."

Izmir and Bodrum. Both are TAV airports, and they work the same way. Join TAV-FREE-WIFI, choose the free 1-hour option, enter your country code and number, then type in the text code. If your phone has no roaming, a kiosk gives you a free password with your ID. Bodrum also has Wi-Fi in its lounges and in some cafes and restaurants.

Dalaman. Kiosks give a 30-minute password when you show your passport. You will find them in the check-in hall, the domestic baggage claim, and international arrivals before passport control. Get your password at that last one, on your way through. Longer use is paid by credit card on the WiSpotter Dalaman network. The CIP lounges are free with no limit.

Gazipasa-Alanya. There are two networks. Turk Telekom's is paid, and the free 2-hour one comes from the local municipality. Register with a number that can get texts, and add your country code.

Ankara. Turkish numbers get a text code. Everyone else scans a passport at any Wi-Fi kiosk.

At airports run by the state operator DHMI, users of its app get 2 GB of free Wi-Fi a month, according to a statement from September 2026.

Why Turkey asks for a text code or passport

It is the law, not the airport being fussy. Under rules from BTK, the Turkish telecom regulator, a public hotspot must identify users by text or a similar method. It must also keep connection logs for two years. That is why you see text codes, passport scans and kiosk PINs.

Will the code reach a US number?

It can. Izmir, Bodrum and Gazipasa all ask you to enter a number with the country code, so type +1 and your 10 digits. For that to work, your US line has to be active and able to get texts in Turkey. Ask your carrier before you go.

If you use a data eSIM, remember it has no phone number. Keep your US line on as well, or use a kiosk. Kiosks work at Istanbul, Izmir, Bodrum, Antalya, Dalaman and Ankara. Gazipasa needs a number that gets texts.

For more on keeping your number alive on a trip, see how to keep your US number abroad.

If the login page does not open

Sometimes your phone joins the network, but the page for your number never shows up. Tap the network name in your Wi-Fi settings. Or type an address that starts with http:// in your browser, such as http://captive.apple.com. That usually brings it up.

Hotel Wi-Fi in Turkey

Turkish hotel rules say what each class of hotel must offer. For internet, they read like this:

Hotel typeInternet required
1 and 2 starsNone
3 starsIn common areas
4 and 5 starsIn common areas and rooms
Holiday villagesIn common areas and rooms

The room rule for four and five stars was added on March 16, 2023. The word "free" does not appear next to internet, so each hotel sets its own terms. Rixos Downtown Antalya, for example, says Wi-Fi is free for all guests across the property. Rixos Premium Belek says it is free across the hotel and in guest rooms.

Before you book, check the hotel's FAQ or list of services for two things: does Wi-Fi reach your room, and is it included in the price? Then test it on your first evening, while you can still download maps and shows.

Wi-Fi in cities, train stations and on planes

Istanbul. The city runs IBB Wi-Fi with no data limit in squares, parks and on transit. You sign up in the city's app. Do that on hotel Wi-Fi.

Train stations. Free Wi-Fi covers 63 TCDD train stations and stops, including those in Istanbul, Eskisehir and Konya, as of March 2025. Save your route offline for the train itself.

Turkish Airlines. More than 300 planes have internet. On international flights, Miles&Smiles members get free messaging, and you can join on the login page in flight. On 103 narrow-body planes (A321, B737-800 and B737-900ER), internet is free and unlimited for everyone.

Other passengers buy a package in flight. Prices on the airline's site on 2026-10-10:

FlightMessagingLarger plan
Short international$3250 MB $9, unlimited $13
Within Turkey150 lira (about $3)Unlimited 350 lira (about $7)

Dollar amounts for lira use about 49.9 lira to $1, the rate on 2026-10-30.

How to use public Wi-Fi safely

  1. Check the network name. Skip anything that only looks similar. It is TAV-FREE-WIFI in Izmir and Bodrum, iGA WiFi at Istanbul Airport and Airport_Free_Wifi in Ankara. At a hotel, ask at the front desk.
  2. Keep banking on mobile data. Do not log in to your bank or type card details on open Wi-Fi.
  3. Do not give a card to a free login. Free airport Wi-Fi needs only a phone number, passport or PIN. Paid access, like Dalaman's premium Wi-Fi, is the exception.
  4. Forget the network afterward. Then your phone will not rejoin it on its own.

When Wi-Fi is not enough

Wi-Fi stays where you sit. You need your own data in these four cases:

  • The first hour after landing. Bags, cash and finding your transfer can take more than the free hour, and Dalaman gives you half that.
  • Taxis. Booking, messages and your location pin all happen at the curb, out of hotel Wi-Fi range.
  • Road trips and tours. Buses, highways and mountains have no hotel network.
  • Beaches and boats. At a far beach or on a boat, there is no Wi-Fi to find.

Keep video, app updates and cloud backups on hotel Wi-Fi, and mobile data lasts a long time.

If your US plan already includes data roaming in Turkey at a price you like, you may not need anything else. Check first.

If not, a Turkey eSIM from Moosetrip runs on Vodafone and Turk Telekom. It is data only, with no phone number. Install it at home over Wi-Fi with a QR code, and it connects after you land, with no kiosk or password. Days start at your first connection in Turkey, your normal number stays on as a second line, and you can add data to the same eSIM.

As a generous estimate, 1 GB covers about 5 hours of maps and rides, or 1.5 hours of video calls. Prices on 2026-10-30:

TripPlanPrice
A few days1 GB, 7 days$3.50
1 week3 GB, 30 days$7
2 weeks5 GB, 30 days$9.50

Your phone must support eSIM and be unlocked, so check your phone before you buy.
