Uber in Turkey: Where It Works and What Taxis Cost

Yes, Uber works in Turkey, but it books regular metered taxis. Its list covers 164 cities and districts, from Istanbul and Ankara to Kaş, Kemer, and Bodrum. Marmaris and Didim are not on it. Meter rates differ by city, and a 10 km ride runs from about 465 lira ($9) in Ankara to 760 lira ($15) in the Antalya resorts.

The app only helps if your phone is online. You need mobile data at the terminal door, and at Istanbul Airport the PIN for the taxi line appears only after you book. Airport Wi-Fi often wants a text code or a kiosk code, and sometimes it shows up but won't connect. Then you are left with the stand, where you have no price to compare.

Dollar amounts use about 49.9 lira to $1, the rate on 2026-10-30. Uber's city list was checked that day. Other figures carry their own dates.

In short:

  • Uber takes requests 24/7 on the city pages we opened, and it sends licensed local taxis. Pay with cash or a card in the app.
  • Yandex Go names six big cities: Istanbul, Ankara, Izmir, Antalya, Adana, and Mersin.
  • 2026 meter rates per km: Istanbul 47.92 lira ($0.96), Izmir 54 ($1.08), Ankara 40 ($0.80), central Antalya 50 ($1).
  • All taxis must add a payment device by November 16, 2026, then accept cards within 15 days. Carry lira until then.

Taxi apps that work in Turkey

Uber. You get an ordinary city taxi, and Uber says its drivers are licensed. On its city pages, you can book around the clock. Standard cars take up to 4 people, and Istanbul also has 8-seat cars. You see a price range before you book.

On October 20, Uber's average trip in Ankara was 15 minutes and 316 lira ($6). In Izmir it was 21 minutes and 768 lira ($15). In Kuşadası it was 21 minutes and 597 lira ($12), and in Kaş 13 minutes and 440 lira ($9).

BiTaksi. This Turkish app comes in Turkish and English. Its App Store listing says it finds your closest car, lets you share trip status with family, and handles payment through Masterpass. It also offers rides with pets.

How to get a taxi without an app

  1. Find a stand. The Turkish word is durak. Cities approve these locations through local transport boards.
  2. Call. Ask your hotel reception for the nearest stand's number. Some airport taxi services also list phones. Sabiha Gökçen's is 0 216 588 12 35, and the Dalaman cooperative's is +90 533 958 28 72.
  3. Flag one down. Before you ride, look for the rate card and make sure the meter is on. In Antalya, the card must be on display.

Taxi fares in Turkey: 2026 meter rates

Each city sets its own tariff. The meter charges a start fare plus distance, and short rides pay a minimum, called indi-bindi in Turkish.

AnkaraMarch 1, 202665 lira ($1.30)40 lira ($0.80)200 lira ($4)465 lira ($9)

The math covers only the start fare and distance, without waiting or traffic. Ankara charges 7 lira ($0.14) per minute of waiting, and Izmir 240 lira ($4.81) per hour.

In Muğla province, which includes Bodrum, Fethiye, and Marmaris, the 2026 season start fare is 150 lira ($3) with a 250 lira ($5) minimum.

Istanbul and Antalya have no night rate. The Istanbul Airport site and the Antalya council decision both say so.

From Ankara Airport (ESB), Uber's taxi rides average 31 minutes and 1,414 lira ($28) over six months. Uber has no fixed price to the center. It shows the fare when the trip starts.

Airport buses cost far less. In Istanbul, see the Havaist bus guide. In Antalya, the tram and city buses are in our public transport guide.

Tolls and tips

In Istanbul, you pay bridges, the Eurasia Tunnel, and toll roads on top of the meter. The airport site says so directly. The 15 July and Fatih Sultan Mehmet bridges cost 59 lira ($1.18), and the tunnel is 330 lira ($6.61) by day and 165 lira ($3.31) from midnight to 4:59 a.m. Uber can adjust your price at the end if tolls came out differently.

In Uber, tip in the app or hand the driver cash.

How to pay for a taxi in Turkey

Uber takes cash or a card in the app. Yandex Go takes a card or cash to the driver. BiTaksi runs payments through Masterpass. Check whether your US card adds a foreign transaction fee.

Street taxis are changing. Under a tax rule published on February 13, 2026, every taxi driver must install a payment device linked to the meter. The driver then has 15 days to start taking cards through it. The deadline moved from September 1 to November 16, 2026. Until that lands, carry lira in small bills.

What fails without mobile data

  • Booking in Uber, Yandex Go, or BiTaksi, along with the price range.
  • The Uber PIN for the taxi line at Istanbul Airport.
  • The pickup point. At Ankara Airport, Uber guides you to your driver in the app.
  • Your map, for checking the route against the meter.
  • A translator, for showing your hotel address in Turkish.

Bank text codes don't need data. They reach your US number if it stays on as a second line and your carrier allows it. See how to keep your US number abroad.

Mobile data for the trip

If your US plan already includes data in Turkey at a price you like, you may not need anything else. Our Turkey eSIM guide compares the options if it doesn't.

A Moosetrip eSIM for Turkey is data only and runs on Vodafone and Türk Telekom. You install it at home over Wi-Fi with a QR code, then switch on data for that line after you land. The days start at your first connection in Turkey, and you can add more data to the same eSIM. Your phone must support eSIM and be unlocked, so check your phone first.

Prices on 2026-10-30:

3 GB, 30 days$7
5 GB, 30 days$9.50

As a generous estimate, 1 GB covers about 5 hours of maps and rides. Install your taxi apps and sign in while you are still at home.
